After one learns the value of being able to mend and create their
own clothes through the art of sewing, and most likely after one purchases their first sewing machine, their next
purchase should probably be a thread rack to hold all of their many spools of thread.
Such products, called thread storage racks or stands, keep the sewing
enthusiast’s threads organized and off of the countertop or floor where they either become a mangled mess or a
tripping hazard.
Thread racks come in an astounding variety of sizes, colors, and
styles. There are thread racks that hang on the wall, thread racks that stand up on the floor, thread racks that
sit on a desk, thread toolboxes, and even revolving thread caddies.
Of those styles, the storage racks can hold anywhere from ten to
two hundred and sixty spools of thread. Thread racks come in both plain, untreated wood and stained wood varieties
as well as all varieties of colored plastic.
The two biggest considerations for buying a sewing thread stand
online are what capacity the sewer needs and what space is available for storing and displaying the thread rack. Is
this thread rack going to be stored in a permanent sewing room? If so, is there floor space or will the rack be
stored on a desktop?
Perhaps on the wall is the only available space. If the consumer needs a large
capacity for thread, but does not have space for an easel-style thread rack either on the floor or on a desk,
then perhaps buying two wall-hanging thread racks is an option.
Another consideration is how the threads will be organized. It may be better for the purchaser
to buy two smaller storage stand if the threads are to be organized by color and the sewer has a whole rack of one
particular color.
For those who sew as a hobby or more than the average person, the
higher capacity thread racks can become quite expensive. One may be able to find quality thread
racks in their city’s personals or using an online auction. Garage sales may also be a great place to turn up used
thread racks.
If the sewer has a handy significant other in their life, then
creating a thread stand as a woodworking project may also be an option, and there are multiple wood working plans
online for just such a project. Fortunately, whether sewing is a new hobby or an established pastime, there is a
thread rack available to fit everyone’s needs.
